Museum and Collection Support

Museum Support

Endangered Heritage understands the needs of museums and the value innate to all collections.

Asset and Collection Management

At Endangered Heritage, we understand that art is not a set and forget asset. Art depreciates if it fades, or gets soiled, or is damaged. But a piece of art that has been properly managed and cared for will appreciate, and so will its story.

The senior staff at Endangered Heritage more than 20 years of experience in the Gallery library, art and museum sector. We know the best way to preserve and manage your collections, to uphold their integrity.

Our asset management process ranges from conducting on-site collection surveys, which includes treatment prioritisation and triaging, collection cataloguing, disaster response and recovery, collection handling training to support design and mannequin manufacture etc.

If you have a collection and you need advice and support, we are here to help. We also run regular workshops as well as workshops for professional development to help you and your volunteers to care for your collections.

Training and Professional Development

Endangered Heritage provides professional development training for museum professionals, personalising the training to target your specific collection type.

We are also available for public talks on conservation. These talks are aimed at people interested in caring for their family history, memorabilia, photos etc., for which we charge you at our day rate, and which you can then bill out to increase revenue for your organisation. We have expertise over an extensive range of topics, which we can form into a series over a few days for the local community, helping to bring in some money for your museum or historical society.

Private collection and asset management

If you have a collection or even just an heirloom left behind by your grandparents, anything you feel is valuable and deserves to be preserved, come to us for some advice and support.

At Endangered Heritage, we understand that art is not a set and forget asset. Art depreciates if it fades, or gets soiled, or is damaged. But a piece of art that has been properly managed and cared for will only appreciate.

We help preserve your assets because we know the value in it isn’t always monetary, that its worth can transcend its physicality.

Maintaining the story, provenance, and integrity of an item requires a sensitive approach. We don’t want to make it ‘as good as new’ and risk erasing away its essence, doing that would be destroying the authentic identity of something precious, destroying the memories associated with it and the history it has lived.

Can the Mona Lisa still be considered the Mona Lisa if you erase away Da Vinci’s work and paint over it? Is a childhood teddy bear still yours if it is simply a replica of it? The value of your assets is not only in their physical appearance but also in the memories and history tied with their identity.

Most of the senior staff at Endangered Heritage have around 20 years of experience in the art and museum sector. We know the best way to preserve the things you cherish without harming their integrity.

Our asset management process ranges from conducting on-site collection surveys, which includes treatment prioritisation and triaging, collection cataloguing, disaster response and recovery, collection handling training to support design and mannequin manufacture etc.

If you ever worry that your assets are not being managed in the best manner or if you just want to know a little bit more about asset management, come have a talk with one of our experts.

Ask us about our hourly rate for booking a conservator. We can organise to have a conservator go through your collection with you and triage, sort, pack, and store items. We’ll provide you with expert advice on what needs work now and what can wait its turn, as well as highlight potential areas of concern before it is too late.

We also run regular workshops and professional development seminars to help you to care for your heirlooms.

Pre-purchase and pre-insurance assessment

The team at Endangered Heritage has decades of experience using scientific assessment processes for evaluating artwork for the National Collection. Now, we offer these same skills to collectors and lovers of fine art.

Endangered Heritage is an independent 3rd party assessor for owners and brokers, helping to analyse the condition risk and ensure that repairs are to the highest standard. Art asset management helps prevent damage claims and depreciation.

Services include:

  • Report Documentation – Endangered Heritage will write thorough documentation that will highlight everything from the state of the artwork to what are the current risk factors for the collection. The weakest link to any collection is an incomplete inventory.
  • Photographic Documentation – We offer photographic documentation that highlights all the aspects of how the collection is being stored and what possible risks there are to the collection.
  • Risk Assessment – Endangered Heritage will look at all aspects of the collection, from the way it’s being stored to the condition of the object. The way the object is being stored and maintained can drastically alter its longevity.
  • Endangered Heritage will also look at the disaster risks (e.g. flood, fire, insect) associated with where the object is being stored.
  • Risk Remediation – After the risk assessment, Endangered Heritage will assist in ensuring that the collection meets the current best practices in storage and display used in National Institutions.
  • Endangered Heritage will advise on light levels, humidity, temperature, framing and boxing standards.
  • Collection Management System – Whether you have a few items in your collection or a substantial amount, it’s important to keep a record of the details of your collection. Endangered Heritage offers a wide array of collection management systems that keeps track of all the relevant information regarding your collection.
