Laboratory
Endangered Heritage is a Canberra-based conservation company located in Fyshwick, a central retail and industrial district.
At our Shop Front you can bring in objects where staff can support your conservation needs and intake objects for treatment within our laboratory. Our shop front also provides conservation supplies, archival material, pigments etc., available for purchase by the general public.
Our Laboratory is temperature and humidity controlled with 24/7 security to ensure your objects are safe and stable, whether they are on the bench being treated by conservators or in storage waiting their turn. We have state of the art equipment, tools and instruments for scientific analysis and treatment of a variety of materials.
When receiving a new object, conservators first examine the object and conduct research to gather as much information about the object itself including materials, techniques and styles used, to then assess the treatment scope. This process can include scientific analysis, dye testing, and microscopy. Results will inform conservators about the necessary methodologies, techniques, equipment, storage conditions and materials which can be used during treatment.
This initial examination and quoting process has a fee of $66 per object, or $88 for textile objects which undergo freezer treatment for 10 days to ensure any insects which may have made an object their home do not enter the lab and impact other objects.
All objects have before and after photographs taken to record details of their condition and treatment, and a Condition Report will be produced by the contributing conservators to ensure there is a written record of the objects significance, condition and treatment, enabling objects condition to be monitored over time.
